In December, 2013, a professional basketball player, Horace Wormely was invited to Japan as a guest player of the Team HOS for the HOS Games 2013. In this December, Wormely came back to Japan as a guest coach for the Loop Basketball Clinic 2014 supported by Higashi Osaka Stadium. Here is the Wormely’s highlights at the HOS Games 2013 below.
Even though Horace Warmely is 5’6″ high, he had played for Los Angeles D-Fenders and played in overseas, such as China, Germany. His high-leveled skills and abilities amazed basketball fans and inspired other players in Japan last year. But, this year, Wormely came to Japan for sharing the skills that he had developed in his 25-year-long basketball career. We, Loop Sports Management, Inc., are very proud of him to came back and giving the precious opportunities to the Japanese youth players.
On December 21st in Japan time, Wormely had a 2-hour clinic for 7th – 9th graders, 43 youth players including both boys and girls. At the very beginning, Japanese kids looked little bit nervous to be coached by wormely since there is less opportunity to communicate with foreign person in Japan, especially for younger people.
However, once Wormely showed his sophisticated dribble skills to them, kids were so amazed by his dribbles that they had never seen before. And, they started to pay attentions to Wormely’s words and tried to perform as Wormely taught.
In 2 hour clinic, youth players worked on;
– Dribble drills
– Footworks
– Combination drills including dribble, pass and shoot
When they played 1 on 1 as finishing the clinic, we could see that youth players tried what they had just learned from Wormely. It made us feel that even though this clinic was only 2 hours, but we can motivate Japanese kids and can teach a lot of stuffs.
Also, youth players asked good questions to Wormely at the Q&A session, and girls players asked him for shaking hand after the clinic. We believe that this Loop Basketball Clinic can help international communication through basketball even though each players, coaches cannot talk each other in the same language. It will be our pleasure if this basketball clinic inspires youth players to be interested in overseas.
Wormely left a comment that kids were very good at listening to what coaches says even though Wormely was a stranger to them. He mentioned that it comes from the everyday’s training by the coaches and they need to keep this good habit to bring entire team up to the next level.
So now, please check out the highlights of the clinic on Dec. 21.
Loop Basketball Clinic 2014 has just started. Horace Wormely will have more clinics in Japan in the next 2 weeks. We will update the highlights of the clinics.
